  《霧都孤兒》是英國作家查爾斯·狄更斯于1838年出版的長篇寫實(shí)小說。小說以霧都倫敦為背景,講述了一個(gè)孤兒悲慘的身世及遭遇。主人公奧利弗在孤兒院長大,經(jīng)歷學(xué)徒生涯,艱苦逃難,誤入賊窩,又被迫與狠毒的兇徒為伍,歷盡無數(shù)辛酸,最后在善良人的幫助下,查明身世并獲得了幸福。如同狄更斯的其他小說,本書揭露許多當(dāng)時(shí)的社會(huì)問題,如救濟(jì)院、童工、以及幫派吸收青少年參與犯罪等,也曾多次改編為電影、電視及舞臺(tái)劇。

作者簡介

  查爾斯 狄更斯(1812-1870),19世紀(jì)英國批判現(xiàn)實(shí)主義小說家。狄更斯的作品特別注重描寫生活在英國社會(huì)底層的“小人物”的生活遭遇,深刻地反映當(dāng)時(shí)英國復(fù)雜的社會(huì)現(xiàn)實(shí)。他的作品盛行至今,根據(jù)這些作品演化而成的各種讀物和影視作品在世界范圍內(nèi)流傳更廣。其主要著作有《匹克威克外傳》《霧都孤兒》《老古玩店》《艱難時(shí)世》《我們共同的朋友》《大衛(wèi)·科波菲爾》《雙城記》《遠(yuǎn)大前程》等。
