我的第一本英文數(shù)學(xué)書

　　《我的第一本英文數(shù)學(xué)書》寫作于20世紀(jì)初，當(dāng)時被稱為"新世紀(jì)版"，它是為當(dāng)時完成了口算練習(xí)的孩子們準(zhǔn)備的一本數(shù)學(xué)課本，供他們在三年時間內(nèi)學(xué)習(xí)。全書共分三部分：第一部分是關(guān)于較小數(shù)字的訓(xùn)練，這些簡單的訓(xùn)練課，讓小學(xué)1－3年級的學(xué)生很容易接受。第二部分教學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)較大整數(shù)及其運算，提高他們計算的準(zhǔn)確率與速度。第三部分則是關(guān)于小數(shù)與分?jǐn)?shù)等，并進行相應(yīng)的實用訓(xùn)練。本書作者為愛默生·Ｅ·懷特（1829－1902），美國普渡大學(xué)第四任校長（1876－1883），任職期間，他致力于將這所大學(xué)辦成一所專業(yè)的職業(yè)學(xué)校，注重科學(xué)、技術(shù)與農(nóng)業(yè)等領(lǐng)域的培養(yǎng)，使學(xué)生不僅能成為優(yōu)秀的產(chǎn)業(yè)工人，還能成為優(yōu)秀的社會公民與家庭成員。他同時完成了大量關(guān)于教育管理與教學(xué)的著作，并為當(dāng)時的美國學(xué)校編寫了一套數(shù)學(xué)教材。This book covers three years' work in number， and is designed for　pupils who have received the oral training necessary for the successful　use of a book. It consists of three parts：Part One presents a progressive series of exercises in elementary　processes with small numbers. It aims to secure accuracy and skill to　learn arithmetic better.　Part Two is devoted to the elementary processes with large integral　numbers， and the written processes are more fully developed. The　special aim is to secure accuracy and rapidity in　fundamental processes.　Part Three presents the more elementary process with fractional　numbers， common and decimal， and their more easy and practicable，　are reached inductively.The entire book is carefully adapted to the capability of the pupils in　the several grades as to stimulate their interest in learning arithmetic in　higher grades.
