  本套教材共計(jì)3冊,詞匯起點(diǎn)為800詞。第一冊的重點(diǎn)是基本語法和基本的聽、說、讀、譯的技能訓(xùn)練,第二冊、第三冊在繼續(xù)加強(qiáng)聽、說、讀、譯的技能訓(xùn)練和提高語法應(yīng)用能力的同時,增加套寫應(yīng)用文的訓(xùn)練。教材中的每個單元均根據(jù)在國內(nèi)進(jìn)行專題涉外活動的實(shí)際需要,設(shè)計(jì)提供了大量的小對話、常用句型、短文和應(yīng)用文范文,便于學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)、模仿、套用,使學(xué)生真正掌握一些實(shí)用英語,最終達(dá)到在涉外活動中能舉一反三、較為自如運(yùn)用的目的。本教材在編寫過程中力求實(shí)用、新穎、簡明,強(qiáng)調(diào)學(xué)用相結(jié)合,既突出了成人的特點(diǎn)又兼顧到選材的趣味性。編寫者力求能達(dá)到所設(shè)定的目標(biāo)。本教材于2000年7月出版以來已使用了6年之久,因當(dāng)初編寫時間緊迫,編寫倉促,存在一些不足和疏漏之處,經(jīng)研究決定對本教材進(jìn)行修訂。本教材原則上不做大的調(diào)整,課文、對話和練習(xí)形式基本不變。但對一些明顯過時、錯誤之處進(jìn)行撤換或改正,更加注重語言表達(dá)是否流暢、地道和語言的時效性;對練習(xí)中個別較難的句子適當(dāng)修改降低難度;短語動詞練習(xí)中刪去“教學(xué)基本要求”的詞匯表中沒有的短語動詞,另外將練習(xí)的形式由原來的填空改為選擇填空(即在每題后加兩個短語動詞);對話填空練習(xí)中要求填入的英文部分現(xiàn)用中文標(biāo)出,讓學(xué)生翻譯成英文填入,降低了難度,在修訂時更加注重功能性的語言結(jié)構(gòu)和習(xí)慣表達(dá)方式,盡量練習(xí)本單元所列出的一些表達(dá)方式。
