中國(guó)入世進(jìn)一步促進(jìn)了我國(guó)與世界名國(guó)的各個(gè)領(lǐng)域的廣泛交往和進(jìn)一步合作。英語作為一種傳媒和溝通的工具，它的實(shí)踐功能將越來越突出。為了適應(yīng)新形勢(shì)，培養(yǎng)具有實(shí)際應(yīng)用能力的高素質(zhì)人才，教育部制定了英語新課程標(biāo)準(zhǔn)，旨在突出素質(zhì)教育，全面提高學(xué)生的英語能力。本書有80篇課文（80 passages）。每篇有三個(gè)部分：1.聽前討論（Pre-listening Discussion），2.課文聽力（Text Listening），3.課文內(nèi)容重組（ Text Reconstruction）。教師可以通過聽前討論，引導(dǎo)學(xué)生把注意力集中到有效范圍，使聽力理解更加有的放矢。但教學(xué)重點(diǎn)應(yīng)放在了解課文內(nèi)容后的書面表達(dá)能力的培養(yǎng)上，從易到難，從填補(bǔ)課文內(nèi)容的信息差到某些信息內(nèi)容的完整表達(dá)；從表達(dá)中心意思到課文內(nèi)容重組，循序漸進(jìn)。
