The China Society for People's Friendship Studies (PFS) in cooperation with the Freign Languages Press in Beijing has arranged for re-publication, in the series entitled Light On China, of some fifty books written in English between the 1860s and the founding years of the People's Republic, by journalistic and other sympathetic eyewitnesses of the revolutionary events described. Most of these books bave long been out of print , but are nowbeing brought back to life for the benefit of readers in China and abroad .Born to missionaries, a little American girl tells of her upbringing in a Chinese village in Shantung province, not far from the Yellow Sea, during the late 19th century. Vivid narration of her every day life?ry detail of her household, its people, architectural layouts of the courtyards, living arrangements and styles from a Westerner in China?es us such insight into the life of an American living in China.
